Rory McIlroy’s TGL has a hole named ‘Craic On’ as creator shares Irish influence

Rory McIlroy drew upon his Irish heritage when designing one of the holes in ‘Tomorrow’s Golf League’ – better known as TGL.

Among the 15 holes that made their debut during last week’s event was the ‘Craic On,’ a 175-yard par-3. When crafting the links-style hole, designer Beau Welling pulled heavy inspiration from the traditional golf courses found across Ireland.

“‘Craic’ is an Irish word for having fun and this should be a super fun hole,” he said “It is inspired by the type of hole you’d see in Ireland, the visibility of the green is obscured by dunes and grasses and the hole itself is a left-to-right angled green and it will be about 170 yards to clear the front bunker.

“The green has interesting contours and players will be able to use a shelf in the middle to divert the ball right or left depending on the hole location. So we are asking the players and teams to hit a really precise shot, which will be challenging considering the wind conditions. They are really going to have to execute and think there way around Craic On.”

According to McIlroy, the early feedback from those who took on the Craic On has been overwhelmingly positive. “The guys came and played a practice match last night, and I saw Shane earlier today, and he said it was the most fun that he’s had playing golf for two hours that he can remember,” the Northern Irishman said.
