Cowboys Golf Club to Undergo Multimillion-Dollar Renovation (D Magazine)

Dallas-based Arcis Golf, which owns and operates Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas, has begun work on significant renovations to the world’s only NFL-themed golf club. With an anticipated delivery in mid-October, the project’s price tag is “several million dollars,” according to Arcis Golf’s CEO Blake Walker.
Renovations to the facility, which is Arcis’ highest-grossing public course in DFW, include a high-tech driving range, an 18-hole putting course, and refreshed greens, bunkers, tee boxes, and cart paths. “There’s some areas on the greens where the slope is just too severe and some greens we can re-do to add pin placement possibilities,” Walker said. The practice putting green and chipping area are also being redone.
The new driving range will feature a 50-yard, game-used turf football field that Arcis purchased from the Dallas Cowboys. A goal post will also be installed around the 100-yard mark on the range. The new driving range will feature 16 hitting stations that infuse Toptracer technology.
The 18-hole turf putting course will be built on about an acre and designed by renowned golf course architect Beau Welling. Arcis plans to repurpose an Airstream trailer at the center of the putting course as a food truck and is also exploring the addition of a beer garden.
The Dallas-based golf course owner is closing during the busiest four months of the year to do this renovation. “We’re foregoing significant revenue and EBITDA to get this done,” Walker said. “This renovation is really about what the next 10 years look like, not what the ROI looks like in the next three months.”
The leftover game-used football field will be installed near the clubhouse to be used for a gathering space. “We get people who come in for corporate events at Cowboys Golf Club who desire the club to be more approachable,” Walker said. “So now, we’ll be providing opportunities for people to hit the ball through the goalpost and play the putting course. It will be very different than what you see at other golf courses.”
Arcis Golf is the second largest owner and operator of private, resort, and daily fee clubs in the nation with more than 70 assets and nearly 7,500 employees. The renovation comes on the heels of the company acquiring four of Invited’s assets, including its most successful private club located in The Woodlands and three in Atlanta, Georgia. “We’re investing $30 million in The Woodlands and investing several millions in our clubs in Atlanta,” Walker said.
The revamp comes at a time when numerous golf clubs across the region are undergoing renovations. Royal Oaks Country Club reopened in 2023 after a significant makeover. Gil Hanse led an overhaul at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth and reopened last year. Dallas National had a $30 million price tag on its refurbishment. TPC Craig Ranch is undergoing a renovation led by Lanny Wadkins. And Lakewood Country Club will soon shut down for a facelift.
Arcis Golf is utilizing two in-house construction teams on the renovation. Graham Construction & Engineering is assisting, as well.
